In 2010, we stumbled upon an interesting observation: Prolonged and consistent endurance exercise served as a deep and meaningful measure against adverse childhood experiences (trauma). Cycling became the perfect fit. Increases in exercise suppresses trauma-centered cortisol levels, while raising fee-good dopamine and endorphin hormones; essentially, cycling is a tool to help trauma-inflicted youth self-balance. After four years of youth accomplishing incredible single-day ride goals (60-100miles), we launched the nation's first and only inner-city high school mountain bike racing team. Five years later, and the official school sport of the Legacy Academy is mountain biking.
