The curriculum for Legacy Academy is hinged to the pursuit of value towards reasoning and
development of the whole pupil. In this manner, we align our educational platform to a Lockean
approach to education, sharing commitment that “a [student’s] mind must be educated before [they
are] instructed, that the true purpose of education is the cultivation of the intellect rather than an
accumulation of facts.”- John Locke.
In addition to students demonstrating annual academic proficiency via nation-norm referenced
achievement test, each student of Legacy Academy is required to undergo extensive critical thinking
over round-table discussion, democratic debate, and literature review. Our primary objective is for
students to combat reactionary thinking, tap into moral reasoning, and to challenge dominant ideologies within restricted environments and systems. Although a good portion of learning is conducted at our physical location, the Legacy Academy is dedicated to experiential learning - participating in numerous field trips for learning within an indigenous environment.
